Out with the Old, In with the New.

Final Current Generation Saab 9-5 Produced

The last current generation Saab 9-5 to be produced, a silver Griffin edition SportCombi, rolled off the assembly line February 1st at Saab’s Trollhättan plant in Sweden.
Almost half a million 9-5s have been produced since its launch in 1997 – 252,236 sedans and 231,357 SportCombis. This popular model, soon to be replaced by an all-new generation, introduced a number of industry innovations: active front head restraints (SAHR), ventilated seats, Night Panel instrument dimming, a charcoal interior air filter and Saab BioPower flex-fuel turbo technology.

The last Saab 9-5 is bound for the Saab Museum in Trollhättan, where it will join an illustrious line-up of all Saab’s key models. As it left the assembly line, a new chapter in Saab product history was beginning – the first all-new 9-5 sedans are already being produced at the world class Trollhättan facility ahead of launch later this year.

Good to hear that the 9-5 has come to an end. I had an old 9-3 it was excellent and then got a newer 9-5 3.0 diesel. £7,000 worth of warranty claims in the first 18 months. Then I switched to BMW. Hope this new car resurrects the Saab build quality of old.

Its a 12.7 yr old design of car that should have been put down to rest a long time ago. We all know why it stayed around SO LONG!

The New 9-5 is soooo way better!! Long live the 9-5! Long live SAAB!!

A bit of a sad moment. I am currently a very happy owner of a 9-5 estate vector 2.3t. This is my second one, I had a V6 before that which I had for 8 years and clocked 300.000 km. The old 9-5 was great! Curious how the new 9-5 estate will be. On display in Geneva? Timingwise it would be great!

The new 9-5 looks fantastic and I'm hopeful it will be very welcome here in the USA when it finally arrives. If I didn't like my current 9-3 so much, I'd consider buying the new 9-5. For now I'll continue enjoying my Saab and watch the company re-establish itself under new ownership as they introduce a new product line. I eagerly await the next generation of 9-3. Go Saab!

A bittersweet story. As an owner of a 2001 9-5 SportCombi, I know just how durable and lovable this model is, but it's exciting to know the new 9-5 is finally going into production.

I'm looking forward to the take-over of SAAB by Spyker automobiles. I have been a proud SAAB owner for many years. I currently drive a beautiful 2006 SAAB 95 2.3T sedan and a 1992 Classic SAAB 900 "S." SAABs are Safe, Reliable and Fun to Drive. I will never drive another automobile! Congratulations SAAB and Thank You Spyker!!

Wonderful news that Saab will carry on. Have had 2 99s, 1 new 900, 3 used 9000s, and four 9-5s, of which two were sedans and two wagons. At present, have two 9-5s both Aero versions, and am excited about the 2010 version. Wish a diesel was on its way to Canada.

I am now on my 3rd SAAB, the latest one is not yet a year old. If the Spyker deal holds I will have a new 9.5 next year. If the deal goes down, what ever I buy, it will NOT be a GM car.

I own a 2006 9-5 SportKombi and now it went 108000 km. There was no essential technical problem, just a few trifles and I always have a relaxed journey. I would buy this car again. So - have a good start NG 9-5!

Good Buy my beloved 9-5! Even two facelifts didn't ruin your timeless design. The final Dame Edna Version gets better day by day. I own one of the very last Griffins, a 09 SC in Arctic White. A perfect car, even compared to the previous 9-3 SC I owned.

13 years old? No way, younger than ever and very much SAAB. So welcome NEW 9-5 and GRIFFIN UP.

I have three different cars for various occations; a Volvo 940 -old reliable, a mx-5 -darling bella for sunny roadtrips and finally, the lady 9-3. Smooth, elegant with unexpected power.
Do I have to tell you which of them that my wife prefer? :)

What a beautiful picture above. I am a proud owner of a Saab 9-5 SportCombi (my second Saab) and the 9-5 has been the most superior car I have ever owned (better than my Volvo 950, better than my Hondas and definitely better than my Volkswagens!). I am very excited about the new 9-4X and the general rollout of the new cross-drive technology in the new 9-3 and 9-5 and future Saabs.

Saab has a bright future if it can clearly articulate its special value proposition to the market and deliver cars that are just as forward-thinking as those of Saab's past. Scandinavian design, turbo-performance, air-craft heritage and dependability, safety and smart energy consumption. Those are the essential ingredients to making Saab a true leader again.

best wishes from germany and good bye 9-5. Say hello to the new generation of the 9-5 II.

28 years in a SAAB on the road without trouble and at least in hope, that the end of last years nightmare for all of you in Trollhättan and around the world working for SAAB is near.

Hope SAAB will start in a glorius future with attractive and modern models, built with the old (pre 1990) spirit. You developed a graceful replacement. Don´t rest, and present the SW.

    best regards

Good Luck!

I drive a 2008 9-3 Aero Convertible. The car was summarily enhanced by the new front end that follows the Saab Aero prototype car that is a sensation. I hope Spyker brings that fabulous car to life as a company "spokesmodel". Congrats on the new 9-5 absolutely Saab and the detailing is beautiful and unique. The car will be instantly recognizable as a Saab. You forgot the clamshell hood perhaps? I will mostly likely get a 9-4X first and then trade in my sedan for a 9-5. Please hold on to the 6-cylinder Aeros -- they are so fast US car magazines won't test them against BMW 330s! Great car, great company culture, solid, unique -- that's what Saab is all about.

Im a bit worried to what is going to happen to SAAB as the showroom has been closed last week in Oman (Arabian Gulf) after they sold the remaining cars. I have a 93 sedan 2005 and its really great car. In my family we do have couple of SAABs that doing excelent as well.

I hope for a better interior quality within the new 9-5; presently, I drive the convertible model year 2007, and after 80.000 km, there are annoying clicking voices coming from the dashboard, the navigation display, the sun protection, the doorknob and from the head rest: this is too much and too much cheap plastic in sum!

I also hope that the SAAB engineers will become able to finally lower the fuel consumption - in many years, I couldn't recognize a serious improvement with this issue.

But after all, I am pretty relieved that SAAB has survived. 'hope you will produce the next convertible just as the concept car, guys!

So happy and relieved that SAAB is back in the game again. I've had seven over the years (including a new-ish 9-3 and a 1990 900i Convertible) and I swear they all have the power to repair themselves. I bought my first 900 GLE when I had no money, and it ran and ran until my ex-partner made off with it. I have been a convert ever since.

Good luck, SAAB, and maybe it's time for a two-seater?

We have to say, good riddance to GM, and much appreciated greetings to the new owners of Saab. We have a 2008 9-5 Aero that just took us on vacation over 3400 miles (packed full of things for our friends) in not-so-friendly weather conditions, with an average 30.9 mpg at an average speed of 72 mph.

Our local, family-owned dealer, Brewer's Saab in Maugansville, Maryland, has been the reason we have purchased 4 Saabs over the years......almost slipped and bought a Mercedes, but their arrogant salesman turned me off and we went right back to Saab.
